The subfamily includes following Genera

  • Katria.

  • Oxylapia.

  • Ptychochromis.

  • Ptychochromoides.

Katria

This genus contains a single member, Katria katria.

It is found in the Mangoro and Nosivolo Rivers in east-central Madagascar.

Oxylapia

Genus Okylapia has a single member, Oxylapia polli .

The species is highly endangered and has a very restricted distribution in Marolambo Rapids in the Nosivolo River, east-central Madagascar.

Ptychochromis is a genus of cichlids endemic to rivers and lakes in Madagascar.

At present 9 species are recognized in this genus.

There are three described species, two are critically endangered and one was considered extinct until rediscovered in late 2010.
